After Chapter 38

This was one of my favourite scenes to write, and it really evolved over the five-million drafts of this book. With each draft, the conversation got deeper, the tension higher. I decided that I didn’t just want them to be enemies that fall in love or lust, I wanted them to be each other’s favourite person. I wanted them to see each other better than anyone else ever had.

Amara, a reckless storm that people have only ever tried to tame.

And Nathaniel, the archangel who has always had to be something, and never allowed to just be himself.

But around each other, they’re just two people. Slowly learning the way the other thinks, breaths, moves, all their quirks and all their imperfections. Because they started as enemies, they never tried to pretend to be anything else other than who they are, and they fall anyway. For the raw, real versions of each other.
